Recently I read an interesting article about secrets to productivity.
The list of 13 recommendations included some very good tips like:
1. Focusing on minutes, not hours
2. Choosing the one 'more important task' at a time
3. Throw away to-do lists (I will try but I can't promise ;) )
4. Make it home for dinner
5. Schedule time to process e-mails
6. Practice a consistent morning ritual (I'm back! Working on this one again and rediscovering all the benefits)
And then some recurring advice that I will not follow. I even consider this a DON'T:
Say no to almost everything....
Well, I prefer to say YES! More challenges, meeting different people, learning new things, having new adventures almost everyday, having fun, very good unpredictable and surprising moments.
Well... at least give a shot for a while and see what happens, how it changes routines (for the better), and instead of focusing on how much precious time you 'lost' think about what you gained: meeting new people, finding interesting things about someone you really did not empathize with, learning new things, enjoying the ride, having more stories to tell, finding more opportunities, and of course... having people say YES when you ask for something. It's a culture that will favor you as well. All small things that will allow you to live your life to the fullest! Everyday! By arranging space for surprises!
And... one more thing: I would suggest not avoiding meetings at all costs... you can learn so much in a meeting, find valuable connections, important solutions, business opportunities. I would recommend learning how to make the most of each meeting. And having fun in the process!
