Instead of allowing yourself to make absurd of destructive comparisons try choosing legitimate comparisons, the ones capable of giving you insights on how to improve yourself.
Be obsessed about the change you want to make and compare yourself to others that are on the same path as you are. They’ll motivate you to get better.
Observe others who are better than you and figure out what is it that you may be missing. Find the little trick, the small detail or the big accessible change you can make investigating others clues behind their successes. But be careful not to confuse your goals with theirs. You’re only learning through their way but to reach your own destination.
Through legitimate comparisons you can find powerful fuel to help you reach your own goals.
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”
So please change your attitude to a positive, nice one and focus on: educating yourself. You have the power to keep away from negative thoughts that diminish others. You don't have all the information, don't forget that! Be the one who highlights others strengths and see how that can change other people perceptions. If you leave a good seed, there is a very good chance that you can contribute to others positive thoughts and attitudes. And your confidence will grow because you will feel proud at the end of the day. Be the positive influence and grow your self esteem!
Want to talk but can’t say a word?
I know the feeling… but don’t quit, your opinion is valuable to the group, I’m sure!
Even if that’s not your style, or you think you’re too shy, too perfectionist, don’t want to be confronted… do not hold yourself back! Be careful because failing to make your voice heard at key moments may be detrimental to your career.
Go for it!
TO ACTUALLY WORK (I don’t mean just having a job) sadly seems to be out of fashion
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work”
Go for it! Work hard, set the example, progress every day and feel fulfilled in order to get the most out of your weekend!
you’ve worked hard and you deserve it!!
I try to encourage you to find people that inspire you in order to maintain the urge to perform better and better every day. Both personally and professionally.
Today I will talk about one of my heroes that generously let me ‘inside’ his personal habits and showed me his daily affirmations. I must tell you that this is one of the parts of The Morning Miracle where I struggle the most (along with visualization).
So here’s what we can learn from him. I will leave some guidelines in their pure format, some slightly changed (I don’t believe all of you can understand Portuguese! ;) ), and some with extra comments to give you the most of Joao’s daily habits.
>> I love who I am
>> I choose to live a healthy life
>> I am commited to Constant And Never-Ending Improvement (CANI)
[What would happen if every day you would improve one thing in each area of your life and business in a small way? Little things don’t mean a lot, they mean everything!]
>> I will not take anything personally
>> I will not make assumptions
>> I listen patiently while others talk
>> I will communicate with others clearly and express myself more
>> I will not waste my evenings with facebook and my phone. I will disconnect
>> I will cultivate fulfilling relationships
>> I will remain calm and happy at all times
>> I will always do my best. I feel confident, relaxed and I’m focused. I have all I need
>> Outside circumstances and events have no power over me. I create my world from the inside-out
>> I am fully grounded in the experience of the present moment
>> I am grateful for this moment
>> I will pray more
>> I am efficient, I’m good at delegating tasks and I make the best use of my time
I must tell you that I have seen how much Joao accomplishes being very disciplined and growing better habits and this is a guaranteed approach! Personalize it and try it! Repeat every day and watch yourself become the person you want to be!
It is not the first time I write about the book The Book of Joy . It is trully astonishing.
You should read it: Wisdom in every page bringing pure joy and guidance to your daily thoughts.
In my opinion the greatest revelation yet is given when they talk about
The Eight Pillars of Joy.
I hope you find it as enlightening as I have. I give you this in the format of advice so that you can start to practice this TODAY!
Open up to the lives and perspectives of others, and be willing to experience their suffering. Remember: we are not alone in our own difficulties.
Always think others are as valuable and wonderfully made as you are (at least ;) ).
Use playfulness to bring people closer together, to diffuse tense situations. Humor helps us to live together peacefully.
Acceptance allows us to engage life on its own terms. It enables us to change and adapt.
Stop blame and give pardon. Justice can be served without anger, without hatred. Once it is served, learn to let go. Forgiveness allows past hurts to fade away, where they stop becoming an obstruction to a joyful life.
be grateful and recognize that this attitude helps you to generate our own happiness. Gratitude connects us to others: we can remember all of those who help make our happiness possible and that bring goodness into our lives.
Compassion: Explore compassion and empathy. Allow yourself to be concerned when you see others suffer, and to wish for that suffering to be relieved. Compassion should be extended to the self, as well. Learn to recognize your needs.
Generosity: Strive to attain a generous spirit, made possible by accepting that you are just a steward of your wealth.
Practice these attitudes and make the world a better place! You’ll soon find Joy.
[Do these seem to abstract? Will it help to look at these guidelines on a different perspective?
>> Considering yourself greater than your fellows. This separates you and makes you feel as if you must act a certain way.
>> Using Humor to mock or belittle others
>> Wishing, in vain, that things were different. Avoid becoming stalled in denial, despair, and anxiety.
>> Do not condemn others. When you do not forgive a person that has hurt you, you allow that person to hold power over you, to control your emotions.
Be careful. These are dangerous thoughts or attitudes and true obstacles to your joyful life. These will only rob you of happiness and sow the seeds of sadness around you.]
There’s something about getting back to our work, getting home after a vacation, kids going back to school that triggers my anxiety…
September always seems like a terrible month… I find myself wanting to solve everything urgently: I want my house to be perfect, my kids to have everything ready for school, I want to write down every topic on my mind, I want to give some training to my housekeeper, I want to buy my husband new shirts…. And the list goes on in my mind with new lines every 10 minutes and a sense of urgency and of everything being out of control…
Do you recognize these feelings?
Want to get back on track?
Have a good Monday! Enjoy the rhythm of life! You can do it!
My name is T. S. Coelho and I live in Lisbon, Portugal, with my husband and three kids. I work in the asset management industry, managing an equities fund.
