I’ve just read a great article on the Financial Times! And with perfect timing as well as I’m about to decide on my next career change (I shouldn’t really use the ‘next’ word because I have been working in equity capital markets in the same Portuguese bank since 2004!).
5 Things to Keep in Mind:
>> Work should be something that gives you a place in society, that allows you to feel dignified, that allows you to construct your personality, to be creative, to unleash your potential;
>> People are well paid, they have good surroundings, but they are often unsatisfied, because they don’t feel proud of what they’re doing;
>> Kindness and compassion can get you back on your feet;
>> More happiness increases productivity;
>> We are a source of joy or stress for others;
>> We really need to make sure to harvest time with the people we love. What you don’t want is, at the end of the day, finding yourself in a horrible situation where you look back and say, ‘oh my God, I missed the train’.
CLARIFY YOUR PRIORITIES!
Thank you Ingrid Betancourt for these words of wisdom! I hope you can relate to this as well and set time to figure things out on your side! I will be giving a lot of thought to this in this time of discernment.
My name is T. S. Coelho and I live in Lisbon, Portugal, with my husband and three kids. I work in the asset management industry, managing an equities fund.
